National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On September 30, CMHC will observe the inaugural National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a new federal day of commemoration to honour residential school Survivors, their families and communities.

At CMHC, we acknowledge the truth of the harms inflicted upon generations of Indigenous people by the residential school system and other historic injustices. We have a responsibility to educate ourselves on these wrongs and the ripple effects they continue to have today. And we believe we must use this knowledge and our role and influence to do better.

CMHC is encouraging employees, on this first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, to recognize the legacy of Indian residential schools, and to reflect and participate in educational and commemorative activities.

It is only through education that we can truly come to understand the truth and need for reconciliation and the role we can play, collectively and as individuals, in creating a better future for Indigenous Peoples.
