WORKING AT CMHC

Work at CMHC is never boring. When you combine bright, passionate people with an inspiring mission, careers come to life. Things are always changing, and we're given the trust we need to get the job done. Whether we're leading Skype presentations from a coffee shop or drafting documents around a picnic table, we do serious work without taking ourselves too seriously. Let's just say we're not your typical government agency.

Be at the heart of our world-leading housing system

At CMHC, we believe that everyone in Canada should have a place to call home. We work with community organizations, non-profit agencies, the private sector and all levels of government to help Canadians meet their housing needs. As the national authority on housing, we do everything from funding transitional shelters to supporting first-time homebuyers. We're constantly evolving to build an inclusive housing system through research, design, innovation and partnerships.

Make a difference every day

For more than 70 years, our expertise and innovation have made a real difference in the lives of Canadians. We were founded in 1946 to help returning war veterans access affordable housing, and we haven't slowed down since. For example, we built Canada's first housing co-op in 1966, won the United Nations Peace Medal in 1982 and helped stabilize Canada's housing finance system during the 2008 financial crisis.

Last year alone, we helped a quarter of a million individuals and families afford a new home through our mortgage loan insurance products. We also launched Canada's first-ever National Housing Strategy, which will create 100,000 new affordable homes and repair 300,000 more.

Our People

The people who work at CMHC are second to none. They work hard and bring passion to everything they do. We aim for a culture of accountability, where everyone takes responsibility for their projects and for their team's success. With such varied skillsets and backgrounds, we're truly better together.
