An inauguration to celebrate the official opening of the New Life Community Church housing project was held today in Clarenville. Churence Rogers, Member of Parliament for Bonavista-Burin-Trinity on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) along with the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister Responsible for the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation made the announcement today. Colin Holloway, MHA for Terra Nova, was also present.
The cost to realize this project was $1.25 million, shared equally by the governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador under the 2014 – 19 Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement. The development also received an additional $73,000 through Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation’s Provincial Homelessness Fund to support the completion of this project.

- The project consists of 10 two-bedroom units designed to accommodate persons with complex needs
- The Government of Canada is currently rolling out its National Housing Strategy (NHS) — an ambitious 10-year, $40 billion plan that will create 100,000 new housing units and lift 530,000 families out of housing need as well as repair and renew more than 300,000 housing units and reduce chronic homelessness by 50 percent.
