Mon Calme housing project progressing well in Gatineau

Gatineau, Quebec, July 16, 2026

The Government of Quebec, the Government of Canada, and the City of Gatineau have confirmed that Gîte Ami’s Mon Calme project in Gatineau is set to go ahead. Once delivered, it will provide 20 transitional beds for people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

The project has been selected under the Société d’habitation du Québec’s (SHQ) affordable housing program, the Programme d’habitation abordable Québec (PHAQ), and is now in the stages of securing final acceptance from the SHQ and funding stemming from both the Canada-Quebec Agreement under the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) and matching investments announced by Quebec.

The announcement was made by Karine Boivin Roy, Quebec Minister Responsible for Housing; the Honourable Greg Fergus, Member of Parliament for Hull-Aylmer; Suzanne Tremblay, Parliamentary Assistant to the Quebec Minister of Education and Member of the National Assembly for Hull; Maude Marquis-Bissonnette, Mayor of Gatineau; and Daniel Leclerc, President of Gîte Ami.

Gîte Ami is a community organization in Gatineau that has been working with people experiencing homelessness, social exclusion, or extreme poverty for more than 40 years. Through its various supported housing and accommodation sites, it offers a continuum of services aimed at meeting the immediate needs of individuals while promoting their reintegration, residential stability, and independence, with respect for human dignity and without judgment.

The SHQ works to meet the housing needs of Quebecers, including by increasing housing supply throughout the province for people with low or moderate incomes and for those with special needs. It supports its partners in the fields of construction and renovation, property management and home adaptation.
