Working at CMHC is defined by our employees, our culture and our dedication to housing people living in Canada. When you combine bright, passionate people with an inspiring mission, careers come to life.

Make a difference every day

At CMHC, we know housing can make a transformative difference in the life of an individual, a community and a country. That’s why we believe that everyone in Canada should have access to what they deserve: a home that they can afford and meets their needs. It’s a belief we’ve shared and cherished for more than 75 years.

We work with community organizations, non-profit agencies, the private sector and all levels of government to help people living in Canada meet their housing needs.

At CMHC, we do everything from funding transitional shelters to supporting first-time homebuyers.

We help hundreds of thousands of individuals and families afford a new home through our mortgage loan insurance products every year. We're constantly evolving to build an inclusive and climate-resilient housing system through research, design, innovation and partnerships.

0:00 (Music fades in)

0:09 My name is Jalissa Moody.

0:10 I am from Bella Coola, the Nuxalk Nation.

0:14 I work for my nation as the Asset Management Assistant.

0:21 I think getting involved in housing is important because

0:24 without homes, you don’t really have much of a community.

0:28 What I really enjoy about this job is that everyday is different.

0:36 We’re really taking a lot of different design principles

0:39 and building our buildings and our homes to suit our environment.

0:48 I have kind of helped pilot this tiny house project.

0:52 They are going to be strictly rental units

0:54 for homeless and at-risk men of our community.

0:59 You can see, the angled roofs that are angled towards south.

1:03 There are going to be roof-mounted solar panels on the tops of these.

1:08 They’re just a really, really exciting project.

1:10 We haven’t had anything, kind of,

1:12 like this in our nation yet.

1:16 We’re really excited about everything we’re doing here

1:20 and everybody sees the progress that we’re making here.

1:25 You talk to some of the older people within the community

1:28 or you talk to the elders

1:29 and they are really happy to see that

1:31 their children and their grandchildren are building up their community.

1:37 We have very, very intelligent people within our community

1:40 and it is so great to see them progressing,

1:43 and succeeding and building our nation up.

1:49 I grew up here and the old saying,

1:51 “it takes a village to raise a child”

1:53 and it really does.

1:54 And I feel that I’m a product of my community.

1:57 It motivates me; I want the best for my people.

2:02 Well we do have a saying in our Nuxalk language,

2:06 which is, “Smaw ti silq ilh!”

2:08 and that is “One heart. One mind”.

2:11 So that, kind of, wraps this all together.

2:14 (Laughter)

2:16 (Music fades out)

All about diversity, inclusion and belonging

It’s our collective responsibility to make sure everyone feels like they belong. Removing systemic racism, inequities and other barriers to housing starts with taking care of our employees. That’s why we’re fostering an inclusive workplace where every employee feels respected, valued and appreciated for who they are. We’re continuously growing and diversifying our talent to make our work better.

We actively support Employee Resource Groups and initiatives that make CMHC a safe space to work and where everyone feels a sense of belonging.

Our Hiring Process

  1. Apply

Select the role(s) that are the best fit for you and your career. When you click "Apply now", you'll be asked to create an account or to sign into your account if you already have one. Upload your résumé and cover letter (optional) and answer some quick questions. You'll get a confirmation email once your application is submitted.

  2. Initial call

If your application matches what we’re looking for, a member of our talent acquisition team will reach out to you to set up a 30-minute phone or virtual conversation. This is your chance to get some intel, so ask questions - lots of questions. They'll also find out what you're interested in and see if you're a good fit for the role you applied for or for another role.

  3. Official language testing

If the role you’re applying for is designated as bilingual, you’ll complete language testing in either French or English, your 2nd official language. A member of the Official Language team will email you to schedule it.

  4. Panel interview

Typically, this is a one-hour, behavioral and/or technical interview with the hiring team, which includes the hiring manager and 1 to 2 other panelists. Don’t forget to prep for the interview, get a good night's sleep and get ready to tell us why you’re the one for the job.

  5. Hiring decision

The hiring team will take some time to make a hiring decision. If you’re successful, we’ll call with an offer and next steps, like security clearance. If you aren’t, we won’t leave you hanging – you’ll get an email from us.

Find your future here.
