It's easy to take housing for granted. After all, it's just a roof over our heads, right? Wrong. Housing is so much more than that. In fact, housing is essential for our health and well-being. Here's why.
Housing is essential for our health and well-being
When we have stable housing:
- we are more likely to be employed and do better in school
- we can more fully participate in society
But when we don't have stable housing, we can't participate fully in our communities. That's why it's so important that everyone has access to homes that they can afford and suit their needs.
1.4 million households in Canada don't have access to quality housing. Rather, they are living in unsuitable, inadequate or unaffordable homes and can't afford an alternative. That's why programs like the National Housing Strategy exist — to help those in need get access to safe and affordable housing.
