Projects are selected by an Indigenous-led committee comprised of representatives from:
- CMHC
- Indigenous Services Canada
- ·organizations representing First Nations, Métis, Indigenous 2SLGBTQQIA+ and urban communities
- subject matter experts
- people with lived experience of shelter and/or transitional housing needs

Applications for Inuit-specific shelter and transitional housing projects are reviewed by an Inuit-led committee.

Forty-one projects have been selected since the launch of this initiative:
- 17 shelters
- 22 transitional housing projects
- 2 mixed used projects
These shelters and transition homes will provide a vital refuge and culturally appropriate supports and services for:
- Indigenous women and children fleeing violence
- 2SLGBTQQIA+ survivors of gender-based violence
Application intake is ongoing and will be reviewed as they are submitted throughout 2023. The last review period is set for November 2023.
Emphasis will be placed on a call for projects supporting:
- Indigenous urban populations
- Indigenous 2SLGBTQQIA+ populations Métis and Inuit populations
We anticipate selecting applications until March 2024, subject to the remaining funding available.
Selected projects on reserves will be announced at the beginning of 2024.
