The Community Housing Transformation Centre (The Centre) is a network of organizations that represent and serve the needs of Canada’s community housing sector. The centre provides access to tools, financial resources and best practices to support the growth, transformation and resilience of community housing.

Mission Statement: The Centre’s mission is to support the long-term evolution of community housing providers by dispensing funds, support and help to increase organizational capacity.

The Centre is a third party network delivering this National Housing Strategy initiative.

Overview

To drive transformation, growth, resilience, sustainability and inclusiveness in the community housing sector, the Centre offers support in two forms:

  1. Technical assistance and tools to increase the capacity of community housing providers by leveraging the centre’s existing expertise, networks and resources.
  2. Funding grants to support community housing providers and community organizations who are exploring new and more efficient business models, or raising awareness and supporting the implementation of new and improved tenant engagement practices.

The goals of the centre will be to:

  • Help community housing providers find new solutions to their challenges.
  • Identify gaps and collaborate on solutions.
  • Find promising transformative practices to study and scale up.

Programs and services available

The Centre currently offers three services:

Sector Transformation Fund provides non-repayable contributions to support the longer-term evolution of community housing providers’ business models. These contributions aim to encourage the development of more efficient and resilient business models without displacing low-income households.

  1. Sector Transformation Fund: Local Projects

  2. Sector Transformation Fund: Sectoral Projects

  3. Community-Based Tenant's Initiative to support tenant and member advocacy groups by raising awareness and implementing of new and improved tenant engagement practices.

Eligibility criteria

Funding for the Sector Transformation Fund will be available to community housing providers (non-profit, social housing or co-operative) or sector service providers.

Funding for the Community-Based Tenant Initiative will be available to organizations that work with tenants, tenant associations, community housing providers (non-profit, social housing or co-operative) or sector service providers.

Access to the Resource library is open to existing and new community housing organizations.
