As National Housing  Day approaches, it’s important to recognize existing challenges and rethink  affordable housing. 
Many people in Canada face housing challenges 
Unfortunately, a  significant number of Canadians still don’t have adequate affordable housing. This problem disproportionately impacts vulnerable populations, such as  racialized households, single-parent households and seniors living alone.
Rethinking affordable housing 
Addressing housing  affordability requires collective action and new, creative solutions. We need  to bring together governments, financial organizations and other partners, such  as developers, to incentivize and help make system-wide changes that address the  housing needs of all Canadians. 
Creating a new generation of housing in Canada 
While there’s much  work that needs to be done to ensure every Canadian has a place to call home,  progress is being made through the National Housing Strategy. The Strategy features  a range of innovative construction and research programs. These are designed to  get homes built for people who need them most and support ground-breaking  research for creative housing solutions.
