The Indigenous Youth Housing Internship Program, formerly called the Housing Internship for Indigenous Youth Program, is accepting applications from April 1 to April 30, 2026.
What’s New?
- A new name: After consulting sponsors and Indigenous youth, the program has been renamed the Indigenous Youth Housing Internship Program.
- A focus on equity: We’re committed to allocating funding fairly, with a focus on distinctions-based groups, gender and identity balance and geographic distribution. We especially encourage internships for women, 2SLGBTQI+ youth and youth with disabilities.
How the Indigenous Youth Housing Internship Program supports organizations and youth
The Indigenous Youth Housing Internship Program helps organizations hire First Nations, Inuit and Métis youth by offering wage subsidies for housing internships. These internships provide hands-on training in areas such as:
- housing administration and management
- maintenance and construction
- tenant relations
- trades apprenticeships
Interns gain valuable work experience to build their careers, while sponsors get support to strengthen their teams and address housing challenges.

Who can apply?
Sponsors including First Nations, Inuit and Métis governments and affiliated organizations (including Band Councils, Tribal Councils, self-government entities) and businesses, as well as non-Indigenous employers who want to hire Indigenous youth. Why sponsor an Indigenous youth intern?
Hiring an intern through the Indigenous Youth Housing Internship Program is a great way to:
- Bring fresh ideas and perspectives to your team.
- Support your community by addressing housing challenges.
Long-term benefits for sponsors and communities
Sponsors, especially Indigenous communities, have experienced lasting impacts through youth internships. Tobique First Nation has supported more than 30 youth since 2018, helping them develop careers in the trades while strengthening their community.
Make a difference in housing
The Indigenous Youth Housing Internship Program is more than a job opportunity—it’s a chance to make a difference. By sponsoring an intern, you’re supporting the next generation of leaders.
