2022 Housing Research Awards competition now open

Our annual Housing Research Awards competition is now open for applications!

If you’re involved in a research team or activities that support impactful and innovative change in Canadian housing, you could be awarded up to $20,000. Four awards are available, depending on your area of research.

• CMHC President’s Medal for Outstanding Housing Research ($20,000)
• Gold Roof Award for Housing Research Excellence ($10,000)
• Gold Roof Award for Knowledge to Action ($10,000)
• North Star Award for Northern or Remote Research (2 or more up to $5,000)

This year’s President’s Medal for Outstanding Housing Research award will focus on the theme “housing and climate change”.

Climate change is increasingly responsible for extreme weather events and challenging housing across Canada. Fundamental changes to our housing system are needed. These changes must address current risks and how we adapt to climate-related risks in the future.

We’ll review applications with these questions in mind:

• Does the research address and add to our understanding of the interconnectedness of housing and climate change?
• Does the research provide new strategies for adaption to and mitigation of climate change?

Where there are risks, there are also opportunities. We’re looking for new findings and innovative recommendations on the link between housing and climate change.

The Gold Roof Award for Housing Excellence recognizes outstanding research on affordable housing in Canada. We’re looking for a significant research contribution that increases knowledge or understanding in one of the National Housing Strategy’s priority areas.

The Gold Roof Award for Knowledge to Action recognizes initiatives that close the gap between what we know and what we do. We’re acknowledging initiatives that lead to demonstratable impacts in the academic community or housing sector.

The North Star Award for Northern or Remote Research supports people doing housing research or fieldwork in Northern or remote areas. Our goal is to build knowledge and fill research gaps in these areas of Canada.

The deadline to submit your application is Friday, July 29, 2022 at 4:00 pm (EST).
