Rita Virk is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) with extensive experience in finance, risk management, and governance across multiple sectors, including financial institutions, insurance, biotechnology, transportation, and technology. She brings strong insights from working in large and complex organizations.
Throughout her career, Ms. Virk has held senior leadership roles in internal audit, financial reporting, and risk management. She has led major system implementations, supported digital transformation initiatives, and contributed to the development of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies. She previously headed internal audit functions at Seaspan Corporation and Atlas Corp. (NYSE: ATCO), supporting effective risk management and accountability.
Ms. Virk has held several board and committee roles in the financial sector, including serving as Audit Committee Chair and as a member of the People Experience Committee at Prospera Credit Union, as well as Vice Chair of the Prospera Foundation Board. Prospera Credit Union employs approximately 700 people, operates 27 branches, and manages $9 billion in assets.
In addition, she has served on the boards and committees of Westminster Savings, the British Columbia Real Estate Association, Fraser Health, and the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. She is a member of the Harvard Business Review Advisory Council and has a strong interest in innovation and emerging technologies.
Ms. Virk currently serves on the Departmental Audit Committee for Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED). She holds a Master of Professional Accounting degree and the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
