The Final Inspection

When you move out, you'll need to prove that the condition of your rental meets your landlord's approval. If you inspected the unit with your landlord when you moved in, locate your initial inspection checklist. Refer to this list to compare the condition of each room when you move out with the condition when you moved in. You and your landlord should inspect the rental premises together; you should both sign and keep a copy of the checklist.

If the rental unit passes your landlord's final inspection, the timely return of your damage deposit (if any) will be in order. If the place is in disrepair or unacceptably dirty, you will be responsible to pay for cleaning or damages you or your guests caused during your tenancy. You may lose part or all of your damage deposit, the interest or even more.
