Chief Financial Officer
Lisa Williams brings a fresh perspective to her role as Chief Financial Officer of CMHC. More than just stewards of the company’s assets, she is steering her sector into a true partnership role with business lines to help Canadians meet their housing needs.
“I see my role as working with my colleagues to roll out strategy. I’m at the Executive Committee table because I need to understand our corporate strategy and how my team can help make it happen with the resources available to us.”
Prior to joining CMHC, Lisa worked for the Auditor General of Canada, auditing Crown corporations like CMHC. She joined Canada’s national housing agency in 2003 as a Senior Analyst in Corporate Accounting, later moving to CMHC’s multi-unit insurance operations, where she made important contributions to the company’s healthy financial performance. Named CFO in January 2018, Lisa’s responsibilities were expanded to include the Investments and Legal Services teams in March 2019.
“Thanks to the time I spent in our multi-unit business, part of what I can bring to my role is having the viewpoint of what it is like to deal directly with external clients. I think this is helpful to our sector. I have the ability to stand back and look at the big picture. A lot of my strengths lie around getting the group engaged and showing them that their work matters.”
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Bishop’s University and a CPA designation. She lives in Ottawa with her husband and two young boys, who together enjoy an active lifestyle that includes skiing, canoeing, fishing, hiking and other outdoor activities.
